As part of the hospital's mission, educational programs are provided through our multidisciplinary clinical staff to promote health information in prevention and restorative care to individuals throughout the community. The following programs are provided to community groups and service organizations at a nominal cost or gratis depending on the need or circumstance.
Program description: Focuses on general health information that can preclude to issues related to gait and balance. Covered in the presentation is information related to injury statistics, benefits of improved gait and balance and reviewing practical ways to minimize the risk of preventable falls and other injuries that can result from residential hazards that are commonly overlooked, but easy to fix. Those who participant is provided a health status questionnaire to assist in assessing whether they or someone they know profiles being at risk of falling.
Program Description: Those who attend this session have an opportunity to be evaluated by a therapist for gait and balance. Participants go through various assessment techniques to determine if they have any difficulties in maintaining balance. Those identified with potential issues are referred to their physician for further evaluation. This program is designed to help identify a potential problem and provide techniques to help reduce the likelihood of a fall with individuals who are experiencing loss of balance or an unsteady gait.
Program description: Participants are educated to preventative measure which safe guard hearing and to the types and causes of hearing loss. Individuals are provided a baseline hearing screening to assess for hearing loss. Those who demonstrate decreased hearing will be provided resource information on how to obtain a complete diagnostic hearing evaluation.
Program description: Those attending this program have an opportunity to have their hearing aid assessed by an audiologist. Participants are educated about various types of hearing aids and new advancements in hearing aid technology. Information regarding proper fitting, cleaning and battery maintenance is provided to participants to insure proper use and performance of their appliance.
Program Description: Program focuses on general health information regarding the mechanism of swallowing and conditions that can lead to difficulty in swallowing (Dysphasia). Discussion on various techniques and food consistencies that assist in the process of swallowing are reviewed. In addition, procedures in the evaluation and treatment of disorders related to swallowing are described.
Program Description: This program reviews the benefits of resistance and cardiovascular exercise for those over 55. Participants will be provided information assessing their knowledge about the benefits of exercise. In addition, the following topics are covered; 12 Simple Ways to Get Started, The 3 Keys to Fitness, Stretches For Flexibility and More, Aerobic Exercise For Heart Health. Strength Training Exercise For Muscle Strength and Tone and Walking - The King of Exercise. Interactive demonstrations of various exercise techniques are provided during the presentation.
Program description: Program focuses on general health information regarding the back. Basic review of anatomy and common problems associated with back pain are discussed. Information and demonstrations on various techniques and biomechanics in prevention of back disorders are reviewed. In addition, procedures in the evaluation and treatment of disorders related to the back are described with discussion of back safety as it pertains to activies of daily living.
