In-House Pharmacy Implemented

Upon moving into our new facility in May of 2005, we contracted with a local Pharmacy to provide medications for our patients.  As our patients needs changed we determined that an in-house pharmacy would be more efficient and cost-effective.  Therefore, a space was renovated to implement a pharmacy and a pharmacist with over 25 years experience, John Batek, was hired to provide this service to our in-patient population.  John works in collaboration with the Medical Director, Dr. Zihni Yilmaz and the rehabilitation team and helps to assure patient safety through safe and effective medication delivery systems.  The Pharmacist also provides medication consultation and education.
 
John is the chairman of Southwest’s Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee responsible for maintaining a comprehensive list (formulary) of over 500 medications, assuring cost-effective medication delivery systems,  providing prompt response to medication recalls, responding to medication shortages and implementing systems to assure patient safety.
