Annual Giving Yields Major Donors |
|
As a non-profit charitable health care organization, struggling to meet the increased costs related to providing the best physical rehabilitation care available in southwest Michigan, we annually seek the assistance of former patients, health care providers, businesses, employees and prominent individuals who support quality health care in Battle Creek and surrounding communities. Our Fund Development program became a priority in 2005 as we opened our new state-of-the-art facility on Roosevelt and were immediately confronted with reductions in Medicare funding. As approximately two-thirds of our in-patients are Medicare eligible, such cuts have been particularly onerous. Fortunately, we had the support of 70 donors in 2005, with six major donors ($1,000) among them. Their names were subsequently placed on our new Donor Wall in the lobby. They were Fred Bachman, John & Edith /Burgess, Fovette Dush, Charles Quebbeman, Esther Shaw & Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Shaw Jr. and Dr. James & Dr. Carolyn Timmons. All other donors were listed in the summer issue of the newsletter. Although our annual giving letter was sent out fairly recently, we are pleased to already have the support of many new and repeat donors as well as additional donors now qualifying for placement on our Donor Wall. These new Donor Wall friends are (Bronze-$1,000) Kevin & Amanda Patrick, Raymond Barlond (Wright & Filippis, Inc.), Karol Jenney and Diane & Louis Giannunzio. Our first Gold Donor ($5,000) is Jack & Muriel Budrow and our first Diamond Donor ($10,000) is Carolyn Warner. |

Although donations to this date are not at a level to replace Medicare funding losses, they have helped to subsidize care for those without insurance as well as assisting with the purchase of new equipment such as alarm beds to prevent falls, computer technology, pharmacy equipment, electronic medical records implementation (see story in this newsletter), etc. Of course, we are grateful for all donations, no matter what size and as of January 23, 2007 for the 2006-07 year count among our 38 new donors the following additional friends: Jeffrey Albaugh, Jeffrey Andert, David Bays (Cook-Jackson Co.), Elmer Bjorklund, Joyce Blount, Joanne Button, Randy Day, William Delano, Daniel Gallagher (Gallagher Uniforms), Mike Gillet (Health Partners), Louis Grant, Joe & Connie Grestini, Sheryl Haan, Edward Haring, Jim Hettinger, Mike Keller, George Koyl, John Lang (MHA Insurance), Lois Lawrence, Walter & Sharon Liss, Marie Maire, Vickie Nelson, Alberta Reese, Bob & Marilyn Sackrider, Kurt Sherwood, Beatrice Smith, Tom & Lisa VanDis, Phillip Voelker, Dick & Bea Walters, Kathy Wanner, Douglas Worgess (Worgess Agency), James & Mildred Wright, Frank Zanetti, David Zebell & William & Laurene Zebonian.
